John Deere TECH Job Description - All Locations

Type of Employment: An associate degree program sponsored by West Central Equipment and John Deere that encompasses college education and on the job experience.

Department: Service

Reports to: Service Manager or Service Location Manager

Supervises: None

Purpose:To attend the John Deere TECH program to obtain the knowledge and skills needed to graduate the program as a certified John Deere Technician. Also learning to perform basic diagnostics, service repairs and maintenance work on customer and/or dealer-owned agricultural and turf equipment, all while being guided under the supervision of our certified technicians as an intern at West Central Equipment


  •  Learns to perform basic diagnostics and repairs on agricultural and turf equipment and Ag Management Solutions (AMS) products
  •  Attends Owens Community College to acquire hands on training and experience from John Deere certified trainers
  •  Maintains satisfactory grades and performance throughout the college course/internship
  •  Works on building a knowledge of John Deere and competitive products
  •  Maintains a clean work area and performs work in a neat and orderly fashion
  •  Follows safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments
  •  Completes reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignments
  •  Accounts for time on a timecard and for materials used in performing assigned duties

Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge:

  •  Basic mechanical knowledge and a willingness to learn and develop knowledge and skills
  •  Basic computer skills
  •  Proficient oral and written communication skills
  •  Ability to lift at least 75 lbs. repeatedly
  •  Ability to obtain a John Deere technician certification
  •  High School Diploma required; ability to obtain an associate degree and become a certified John Deere Technician
  •  Valid drivers license is required
