JDLink R Modem

John Deere JDLink R Modem - 4G is a mobile communications and processing device designed and manufactured by John Deere. It integrates 4G LTE, global positioning system (GPS), wireless, Bluetooth wireless, and on-board machine communications via controller area network (CAN) and Ethernet. The 4G modem is ideally suited for advanced telematics applications such as machine health monitoring, advanced logistics, machine control, and remote diagnostics. It is environmentally sealed and rigorously tested to ensure performance in the most demanding environmental conditions.

The JDLink R Modem – 4G kit (021TPC) enables a quick upgrade to existing machines from 2G or 3G to 4G LTE. The R Modem is designed to work with the existing brackets and mounting locations on most equipment types. Producers need additional hardware to mount the 4G modem on the following equipment:

  • S Series Combines
  • Model year 2014 and newer W- and T-Series Combines
  • W-Series Self-Propelled Windrowers
  • 8000 Series Self-Propelled Forage Harvesters
  • C690 Series Cotton Harvesters
  • CH570 Cane Harvesters

To install a 4G modem on a 2G and a 3G bracket on the machines listed above, order HXE102379 (quantity of two) and HXE102380 (quantity of one) to complete the installation.

The JDLink R Modem kit (021TPC) includes a 4G modem, terminator, and two stubby wireless antennas. It does not include an Ethernet adaptor cable. If the R modem is going to be installed on a machine with a display, see the JDLink compatibility guide  to order the correct Ethernet cable based on the machine configuration.

The JDLink R Modem – 4G is the recommended 2G or 3G upgrade solution for most situations. The 4G modem with a high-profile antenna (PFA10882) is required for the following:

  • Machine Sync
  • Machines requiring wireless or Bluetooth wireless functionality
  • New machine installations

Benefits
When upgrading existing 2G/3G with JDLink R Modem – 4G:
  • Quickly and easily upgrade older machines with the latest hardware solutions
  • Keep costs low as kit uses existing parts for mounting previous generation antennas
Additional details
The new terminator is only compatible with a 4G modem. If a previous generation modem (MTG) antenna must be replaced for any reason, it is recommended to install the high-profile antenna. To install the high-profile antenna, the terminator needs to be removed.

Retrofit applications may experience decreased wireless or Bluetooth range and performance compared to an 4G modem with a high-profile antenna. If Machine Sync or wireless/Bluetooth functionality is required in the future, the terminator will have to be swapped with a high-performance antenna.

Subscriptions cannot be transferred to terminals that already contain an active or factory-activated subscription.

After the July 2021 ISG digital software release, JDLink connectivity can be enabled on compatible modems (MTG) at no additional cost.
